While he’s always been highly regarded as a student of the game, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck enjoys watching game film of not only his Colts offense and opposing defenses, but also that of other star NFL quarterbacks:

"“Yeah, I do,” Luck answered ESPN’s Bob Holtzman in an interview about studying film. “I’ve always enjoyed watching film–a bunch of guys. I know in college, I used to watch Peyton (Manning) all of the time. Philip Rivers. You can learn something from everybody. When I was younger in high school, I loved watching Ben Roethlisberger play. Big and strong, how he extended plays. Make something happen from seemingly nothing. So I definitely enjoy watching just about everybody.”"

It shows in his play, as Luck’s cerebral approach to the game mirrors Manning, while he also possesses Rivers leadership qualities.

It’s easy to see quite a bit of Roethlisberger in Luck’s game too, as the Colts star quarterback is tough to bring down in the pocket and often uses his strength and legs to extend and make plays

For better or worse, up to this point in his career, Luck would rather lower his shoulder than slide when it comes to avoiding a potential tackler.

Something that he learned the repercussions of the hard way this past season, as he missed the team’s final 7 games because of a lacerated kidney suffered during a quarterback scramble outside of the pocket.

Still, the Colts have to be careful about limiting Luck’s improvisation all together, as it’s also one of his greatest playmaking qualities.

That being said, it speaks to Luck’s love of the game that he’s willing to take the time and watch special qualities from other star NFL quarterbacks and perhaps add those skills to his own game.

It’s shown both on and off the field.
