According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Indianapolis Colts will not be sanctioned by the league for failing to disclosing the full extent of Andrew Luck‘s injuries:

Earlier this season, Luck was playing on broken ribs, but it was not disclosed in the injury report. Instead, Luck was merely listed as having a shoulder injury.

There was prior speculation that the league could ultimately decide to punish the Colts for the team omitting details of Luck’s rib injury.

However, the Colts–and specifically general manager Ryan Grigson countered the report, noting that “our injury reports are accurate”.

While there appears to be some definite gray area regarding reporting injuries in the NFL, I for one am glad that the Colts will not be getting punished–as the team really can’t afford to lose any draft picks this offseason.

Either way, it appears that Luck was playing through some fairly substantial injuries earlier this past season, and that likely attributed to some of his poor play early on.

It makes sense that the Colts didn’t necessarily feel obliged to report his rib injury because he was already playing through the injury, and defensive lineman may target his rib area with the crown of their helmet.
