The Indianapolis Colts announced Wednesday that the team has placed tight end Dwayne Allen (calf) on season-ending injured reserve and promoted fellow tight end Erik Swoope from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

The 4th-year tight end finishes the season with 16 receptions for 109 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown in 13 games (12 starts). With the Colts offensive line struggling this season, Allen was called upon to assume more of a blocking role.

Originally a 3rd round pick of the Colts in 2012, Allen is set to become a free agent at season’s end. It’s possible that he’s played his last game in Horseshoe Blue.

The 6’3″, 265 pound has always been a versatile weapon for the Colts offense with his ability to both catch and block.

Regarding Swoope, the former Miami Hurricanes basketball standout has spent the last two seasons on the Colts practice squad, as he learns to transition to the tight end position.

The 6’5″, 246 pound Swoope possesses impressive physical measurables and has flashed his potential during preseason games.

However, he’s finally getting his chance to make his mark on the team’s active roster.
