Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck suffered a shoulder injury with 5:38 left in the 2nd quarter against the Miami Dolphins and will not return.

The 40 year old quarterback was making his 6th consecutive start in relief of Andrew Luck, but was once again knocked out of a game. On the afternoon, Hasselbeck was 8 of 15 throws for 99 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and a passer rating of 74.0.

Backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst came in for Hasselbeck and completed his 1st pass to Andre Johnson before running back Frank Gore took the ball 11 yards for his 2nd rushing touchdown on the afternoon–placing the Colts ahead 15-6.

So far, it’s been Whitehurst’s only throw in the game.

From here on out, Whitehurst will be the Colts quarterback under center. The Colts signed former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Stephen Morris earlier this week, who will serve as Whitehurst’s backup the rest of the game.
