The Indianapolis Colts announced today that quarterback Andrew Luck could be sidelined for up to six weeks with multiple injuries. Luck suffered a torn abdominal muscle and lacerated kidney in this weekends win over the Denver Broncos.

Head coach Chuck Pagano held an emergency press conference to disclose the injuries:

"“The injuries happened at the end of an early fourth quarter scramble when Andrew was doing everything he could to get us the win,” said Head Coach Chuck Pagano. “Andrew was sore after the game and was feeling a little worse Monday afternoon so we sent him to get tests.”"

Luck was sacked just once on Sunday but the Broncos managed to land 11 more hits on the fourth year QB, not counting the tackles he suffered on scrambles. This just adds to the growing list of injuries that Luck has suffered in 2015. He was kept out of two games with a right shoulder injury and there have also been unconfirmed reports that he played with three broken ribs suffered in Week 3.

The Colts said he could be out for 2-6 weeks. The Colts have a Bye Week and then head to Atlanta to face the Falcons. If Luck heals quickly, he could conceivably be ready to go on November 22nd when they square off in Atlanta. That said, Pagano didn’t speculate on Luck’s return.

"“It’s way too early to guess how long Andrew will be out,” said Pagano. “We’re going to keep listening to the doctors and evaluating his progress on a week by week basis. We’ve got all the confidence in the world in Matt Hasselbeck and we’re not going to put Andrew back out there until he’s healed and ready to go.”"

Hasselbeck led the Colts to victories over the Jaguars and Texans while Luck was out earlier this season. The Colts were looking to build off the momentum from Sunday’s win over the previously undefeated Broncos but the team’s playoff hopes likely took a big hit with this recent news. Luckily, the injuries will not require surgery.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
