Andrew Luck on MNF Loss: ‘Messed It Up at the End’

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck showed some flashes of his familiar self late in Monday night’s loss to the Carolina Panthers, but was still plagued by 3 interceptions–none bigger than his overtime interception on the Colts 39-yard line which led to Graham Gano‘s game-winning 52 yard field goal:

"“Yeah, went through the progression, tried to hit Coby (Fleener),” said Luck regarding his overtime interception. “Waited too long to hit him though, should’ve moved on. Guy (Roman Harper) made a nice play and tipped it up, and they got the ball and win the game.”“They made the plays at the end. The interception at the end that I committed was a killer,” added Luck. “You know it was a dagger to the heart and they capitalized on it.”"

For Luck, turnovers continue to me a major issues. On the season, he has 13 touchdowns to 12 interceptions through 8 games, when he had 40 touchdowns to 16 interceptions all of last season. The quarterback knows better than anyone, how much his turnovers are clearly hurting the team:

"“Mentally, I think alright,” regarding the impact of his turnovers. “It’s hard to overcome in the game. It’s points. It’s short field position. That’s the important thing. It’s hard to find perspective right now, we lost, and that’s what matters. Did some decent things at the end to give ourselves a chance, but messed it up at the end by throwing an interception.”"

While Luck and the Colts clearly showed a lot fight in what was nothing short of a valiant comeback attempt–coming back from 17 points down in the 4th quarter, there’s still a lot of issues on this team with getting #12 right obviously being the biggest:

"It’s my problem,” Luck said of his turnovers, “And it’s hurting the team. And I’ve got to fix it or else it’s tough to win doing it. Disappointed in myself.”"
