Colts Bring in RB Ahmad Bradshaw for Workout

According to reports, the Colts will be meeting with running back Ahmad Bradshaw today. Bradshaw had spent the past two seasons with the Colts, but ended both stints on injured reserve.

The Colts could certainly use help at the position and many have wondered when the team might bring Bradshaw back for a workout. He broke his ankle Week 11 last season, which led to a dip in efficiency in the offense for the remainder of the season.

Bradshaw was a big part of the Colts offense through the first 10 games, especially in the red zone. He averaged 4.2 yards per carry last season, and only found the end zone twice on the ground but had a much bigger impact in the passing attack. Bradshaw managed to lead all running backs in touchdown receptions with six, despite missing the final six games of the season. He had 38 receptions for 300 yards last year.

If Bradshaw is healthy, the Colts certainly should consider giving him a roster spot with concerns around the other running backs. Frank Gore has been very good so far, but also had two crucial fumbles on goal-to-go situations. Rookie Josh Robinson has been bad with fumbling the ball as well and looks more and more like another version of Trent Richardson.

The Colts also released backup quarterback Josh Johnson today, leaving the team with an empty roster spot. While this is a good indication that Andrew Luck will play Thursday, they could also use said spot to add Bradshaw to the roster.

Bradshaw was suspended by the NFL for one game due a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. It is unclear if he will be forced to sit for a game if he signs with a team, or if since he missed the first four weeks of the season he’ll be able to play immediately.

If he is healthy, the Colts should go ahead and sign Bradshaw to give Gore breaks and the offense another reliable back.
