Colts Make Moves: Sign Matt Hall; Waive Will Corbin

Along with the previously reported release of former starting right tackle Gosder Cherilus, the Indianapolis Colts announced additional roster moves today. The team has signed offensive tackle Matt Hall and waived offensive guard Will Corbin in a corresponding move.

Hall, 25, was originally an undrafted free agent out of Belhaven University in 2014. At 6’9″, 326 pounds, Hall spent last year’s training camp with the Colts, but was waived on August 30 after suffering a triceps tear before eventually reverting back to the team’s injured reserve. He was subsequently released again this past May. Hall has also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings organization, having directly signed with the team as an undrafted free agent in May of 2014.

Regarding the newly signed giant of an offensive tackle, Hall originally started his collegiate career at Arkansas, before transferring to Ole Miss in 2012, before finally ending up at Belhaven University. He played in 44 career collegiate games, starting 33 games. In 2013, he was named to the 1st-team All-Mid-South Conference West team.

It’s worth noting that he’s also been involved with some off-the-field incidents, having been arrested for DUI, simple assault, and domestic violence among other charges during his time at Ole Miss before transferring.

Regarding Hall, his NFL Draft Profile says as much:

"BOTTOM LINELong-limbed, thin-bodied, developmental right tackle only. Lacks the agility for the left side and the core, anchor strength desired to kick inside. Has physical traits for a patient OL coach to develop. Long-term project with limited versatility that could make it difficult to readily earn a roster spot."

At his massive size, Hall seems like a developmental offensive tackle more than anything. However, an offensive line coach can’t teach size, which Hall clearly has quite a bit of at a listed 6’9″, 326 pounds.

With Cherilus being officially released, the team likely needed additional offensive tackle depth for training camp. Hall has prior experience in the Colts system, having spent last year’s training camp with the team. He’s a longshot to make the Colts 53-man roster, but still has the opportunity to make his case.
