The MMQB 100: Andrew Luck 12th Most Influential Person in NFL

According to “The MMQB 100”, the Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck is the 12th most influential person in the NFL:

"12. Andrew Luck, Quarterback, Indianapolis ColtsNot since LeBron James entered the NBA in 2003 (or maybe Sidney Crosby) has a No. 1 overall draft pick entered his professional career with such high expectations and surpassed them so thoroughly in his first three seasons. Now Luck is entering Year 4. If the pattern holds true, his Colts, who reached the Wild-Card round his rookie season, the Divisional Round his second season and the AFC Championship in his third, are Super Bowl-bound. Pro football doesn’t work that way, of course, but you can’t blame the Colts for planning on the pattern to continue. This past offseason, instead of investing heavily in a defense that’s good on the back end but sub-par in the front seven, they chose to put more weapons around their prodigious QB. Wide receiver Andre Johnson and running back Frank Gore were acquired in free agency, while blazing wideout Phillip Dorsett was, surprisingly, drafted in the first round. The Colts are all-in on Luck. Any other approach would be imprudent."

Luck joins his General Manager in Ryan Grigson on The MMQB’s 100, who came in earlier at 60th overall.

Of course, it’s hard to disagree with such a ranking even if my Colts bias is telling me Luck should be even higher. The 25 year old phenom is already the best young quarterback in the game of football and has lived up to every bit of the hype since becoming the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Luck’s coming off a league-leading 40 touchdown pass season last year and carried his team to the AFC Championship Game despite a talent depleted roster that should’ve said otherwise. His teams have gotten better every season with him under center, having never missed the playoffs. He just made his 3rd career Pro Bowl and has firmly cemented himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the game at such a young age.

While he’s not quite on the Aaron Rodgers level of greatest quarterback in the game, he’s starting to nip at Rodgers heels. As the “old guard” at quarterback continues to get older including all-time greats such as Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, it shouldn’t be long before Luck is atop the NFL’s quarterback pecking order for overall supremacy. It’s the league’s most important position, and Luck is soon-to-become the NFL’s best.
