Colts OTA’s Begin Today

Earlier, we noted that the Indianapolis Colts would begin their OTA’s on Monday, May 18th before the weekend. Well, today just so happens to be the big day:

Colts players will begin the first of three phases this week that encompass 10 total OTA sessions. As Colts.com’s Kevin Bowen notes, the voluntary workouts will be with helmets and limited pads, but not full contact.

It may not be the most glamorous time of the NFL’s offseason, but it’s no doubt a necessary and important time for the team. We previously noted some key positional battles to monitor during OTA’s.

As a whole, Colts OTA’s will lay the foundation for the road that lies ahead. If the coaches and players put in the required time and hard work in now, it will pay dividends for having a successful season, especially for a team with Super Bowl aspirations like the Colts.

It’s also a great opportunity for some of the new Colts players and coaches to get better acclimated with one another, and that’s not just the rookies, but some of the veteran free agent additions as well. Players can also get well-versed in the team’s play-calls, schemes, and of course, get in better overall football shape.

The coaches and players hard work now could very well pay off later, as the season progresses. Hopefully, it’s one of the first steps in a successful journey that leads the Colts to hoisting up the Lombardi trophy come February.
