Colts 2014 Positional Review: Running Back

The Indianapolis Colts finished the season 11-5 and made it all the way to the AFC Championship game. We take a look at each position and break down the units performance over the past season. Pro Football Focus (PFF) provides the grades, Football Outsiders DVOA (value per play) and DYAR (total value).

The Colts were a mixed bag at the running back position this season. Injuries, insistence on playing a particular person, and a simple lack of talent have led this to be a major hole in the team’s offense.

The Colts desperately need to find a long term option at the position. The Trent Richardson trade has been an unmitigated disaster and the team’s current options haven’t been that effective.

Just having the threat of a running game would make the Colts an offense to be reckoned with. Today we’ll look at all the players from 2014 and what the outlook for next season will be.
